Alphons Kannanthanam takes oath as Rajya Sabha MP

Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Tourism and the  Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Alphons Kannanthanam on Monday took oath as member of the Rajya Sabha.

Alphons, a 1979 batch IAS officer, began his political journey by becoming an independent MLA backed by the CPI(M) in Kerala in 2006 but joined the BJP in 2011.

Mr Kannanthanam, who was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha in the by-election to the Upper House from the state of Rajasthan, was administered oath by Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu in the Chairman’s chamber in Parliament House.

Mr Kannanthanam is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Present on the occasion were Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha P J Kurien and Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of State in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation Vijay Goel.
