Within minutes of Rahul Gandhi’s aggressive speech where he criticised the top brass of the ruling party, the BJP retorted back calling him to introspect on the electoral performance of the Congress party.

“It sounds like a rhetoric of a loser devoid of substance,” Union defense minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a press conference called at BJP headquarters in Delhi shortly after Gandhi concluded his speech at the Congress party’s plenary session.

On the remarks of Gandhi invoking the epic Mahabharat to compare his party with the BJP, she said, “A party which questioned the fundamental existence of ‘Shree Ram’ today wants to be identifed with the Pandavas…”

The senior BJP leader also took on Gandhi over attacking their ideological fountainhead, the RSS, and other leaders the ruling party draws inspiration from.

“Rahul Gandhi attacked Veer Savarkar just to make his family responsible for freedom,” Sitharaman said, and also termed his attack on the BJP top brass as “fake and falsely motivated campaign”.

“This is a fake and falsely motivated campaign by someone who is out on bail on criminal conspiracy of fraud in National Herald case,” the union defense minister said.

On the issue of Congress raising apprehensions on the EVMs and asking the EC to revert to the old ballot system, the BJP leader attacked the principal opposition party, saying it did not believe in transparency and hence it is against technology, including EVMs.

Another senior BJP leader and union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad criticised Rahul Gandhi’s speech.
