Fire kills five in their sleep at Bengaluru pub

Five people, reportedly in their sleep, were killed after a fire broke out in a Bengaluru pub in the wee hours on Monday. The victims, which included one women, were reported to be the employees of the Kailash bar and restaurant and were asleep when the incident took place.

The pub is located in Kalasipalyam, a busy and congested area in central Bengaluru. According to the authorities, the fire has been doused now.

“An incident of fire has occurred at Kailash Bar and Restaurant located in the ground floor of Kumbaara sangha building (in the vegetable market area). Fire and smoke was noticed by some persons at around 2.30 AM and fire services were pressed into action. Two fire tenders and one fire rescue vehicle attended to it and it has been doused,” senior police officer was quoted by Press Trust of India.

All the bodies have been sent to Bengaluru’s Victoria Hospital for post mortem.

According to initial probe, the fire department was alarmed after the blaze and smoke was noticed by the nearby residents. Fire-fighters were pressed into action soon after, the fire department spokesperosn said.

The cause of the fire, however, is not yet known.

Just ten days ago, fire killed 14 people in a pub at Mumbai’s Kamala Mills compound. The incident had raised questions about fire safety norms in pubs and restaurants, triggering safety checks in Mumbai and other cities, including Delhi.
