Indians evacuated from hurricane-hit Sint Maarten arrive to safety

A total of 170 Indians evacuated from the hurricane Irma-hit Sint Maarten landed safely at the Caribbean island of Curacao. The evacuations were carried out by special flights chartered by the Indian government.

The Indian community in Curaçao received those who were evacuated from Sint Maarten.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted to say that the two flights carrying the evacuees had landed safely in Curaçao.

Sint Maarten, that is jointly administered by France and the Netherlands, was directly in hurricane Irma’s path. The island suffered widespread destruction after the storm made landfall last week and wreaked havoc on the Caribbean islands.
