Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu on Friday nominated JD(U) MP Kahkashan Perveen to the panel of vice chairman. On the occasion of International Women’s Day on Thursday, the members pitched for a woman member to vice-chairperson’s panel, a suggestion which was agreed to by the Chairman.
“In reference to the wishes of the members expressed yesterday on the occasion of International Women’s day to nominate a women member to the panel of vice chairman, I have nominated Ms Kahkashan Perveen,” Chairman Naidu announced at the beginning of the proceedings.
Ms Perveen will take charge on April 3, replacing Basvaraj Patil, whose term is expiring on the April 2, 2018.
“She has been a mayor, she was also the Chairman of Mahila Aayog in the state of Bihar and has worked on the 20 point programme… she has enough knowledge,” the Chairman said.
JD(U) MP Kahkashan Perveen took oath as a member of the Upper House in 2014, representing Bihar.
