Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said she will chariot the direction of the party in the sphere of talking to allies and “like-minded parties”. Sonia Gandhi, who continues to be the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson, addressed her party MPs this morning.

As CPP chairperson, she said she would work with the Congress president and other colleagues “in discussions with like-minded, political parties to ensure that in the next election, the BJP is defeated”.

She also asserted that her son and newly anointed Congress president Rahul Gandhi is her boss too.

“We have elected a new Congress president and on your behalf and on my own, I wish him all the very best. He is now my boss too – let there be no doubt about that – and I know that all of you will work with him with the same dedication, loyalty and enthusiasm as you did with me,” she said.

Criticising the ruling BJP and the government at the centre, she alleged that the government is away from the ground realities of the country.

“I am confident that we will work cohesively under his leadership to revive our party’s fortunes. That process has begun,” Sonia Gandhi said, adding party will emerge victorious in Karnataka, which goes to the polls in a few months.

Sounding an upbeat note, Sonia Gandhi also told party MPs to start working with dedication, loyalty and enthusiasm in order to prepare for Lok Sabha polls, which may well be advanced to later this year.

Lok Sabha polls are due to be held next year April-May, however, there are speculations that it could be advanced and held simultaneously with the assembly polls in four states later this year in November-December.
