The Aam Admi Party (AAP) government in Delhi is again at loggerheads with the Centre. This time the tussle is over the probe panel instituted on the alleged multi-crore CNG Fitness Scam.
Manish Sisodia, the Deputy CM of Delhi has written a letter to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung effectively saying that the government of Delhi is accountable to its people and not the Ministry if Home Affairs (MHA).
“I wish to state that the Government of NCT of Delhi is not a subordinate department of Ministry of Home Affairs. (It) is a constitutionally-elected government which is accountable to the people of Delhi and the Delhi Legislative Assembly. (Delhi government) is not accountable to MHA,” said Sisodia in the letter.
Recently the MHA declared the panel set up by the Delhi government to probe the CNG Fitness scam as “legally invalid and void ab initio”. The probe was ordered by the ruling AAP government. It was L-G Jung who conveyed this decision to the Delhi government.
In the letter to Jung, Manish Sisodia said that the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) set up by Delhi government will continue with its work. He also said that the MHA is free to take the legal course and approach the judiciary if it has a problem.
“I would urge you (LG) to kindly inform MHA that if at all MHA is aggrieved, they may like to approach judiciary for the same. The commission will continue to work and we expect everyone to cooperate with the Commission’s proceedings,” said Sisodia in the letter.
Earlier this month, the AAP government decided to set up a CoI, to be headed by a retired High Court Judge, to probe the alleged scam. It is alleged that a number of officials of the previous Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government were under the scanner.
