The tussle between the AAP government in Delhi and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has again intensified.
The Delhi government has now transferred Home Secretary Dharam Pal and has sent order to Lt Governor’s office for clearance. This is set to aggravate the ongoing power battle between the two.
Earlier today, Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police MK Meena took additional charge as the chief of Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on L-G’s orders despite Delhi government’s reservations.
The AAP told Meena that he could not join the ACB as there was no sanctioned post of a ‘Joint Commissioner.’
On Monday Jung had ordered that Meena be given the additional charge of heading the ACB, which in effect superseded the position of CM Kejriwal’s hand-picked choice of SS Yadav.
Jung also transfered seven inspectors of Delhi Police to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), just days after Delhi government inducted five police officers from Bihar in the agency.
Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has questioned these appointments alleging a conspiracy behind the decision.
“There has been illegal attempts to create the post of a new chief of the Anti-Corruption Branch by creating an Emergency like situation. They are creating such a situation in order to bring the ACB under their jurisdiction. This is unconstitutional,” Sisodia lashed out.
Earlier this month the AAP govt had inducted five cops from Bihar in the anti-corruption bureau. The L-G had objected to the move saying no appointment to the ACB could be made without his consent. The Centre backed him, saying ACB is the L-G’s jurisdiction.
Senior AAP leader Ashutosh questioned L-G’s ACB appointment on twitter saying, “When LG himself is in dock in CNG case he has appointed joint chief of ACB. This is brazen attempt to save himself from investigation.”
Three days ago, the ACB decided to reopen the CNG fitness scam case of 2002. During the assembly polls last year AAP had attacked the continuing silence of the central government and the L-G on the alleged indictment of top bureaucrats in the Sheila Dikshit government in the scam.
