In what may be construed as fissures within the ruling combine of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti left the cabinet meeting midway on Friday after reportedly a rift with one BJP minister.
According to reports, the Chief Minister got angry after the differences expressed by her ally on the issue of her proposal to restructure the Kashmir Police Service (KPS) officers’ cadre. Ms Mufti, it is reported, immediately left the meeting hall and the secretariat.
As soon as the Chief Minister left the secretariat, the meeting was shifted to the office of Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh.
Soon a delegation of the ministers headed by Nirmal Singh also left for the official residence of the Chief Minister Mufti, where ministers tried to placate the chief minister, the source said.
Mufti’s PDP and the BJP – two ideologically disparate parties – are running the state government in an alliance since last year after the assembly polls results failed to throw a clear winner.
The alliance has been observed curiously in the political circles after Mehbooba Mufti took three months to commit on the continuance after the demise of her father and sitting CM Mufti Mohammed Sayeed earlier this year.
