In a shocking incident in US city of New Jersey, one Indian women and her seven-year-old son were found dead in their home on Thursday. The incident was reported by their family based in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. The victims have been identified as 40-year-old N. Sasikala and her son Anish Sai.
So far, there is no confirmation if the incident is a hate crime.
According to reports, Sasikala’s husband N Hanumantha Rao found the bodies when he returned home from work on Thursday evening.
Y Sambasiva Rao, a member of Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly from Prakasam district, spoke to representatives of Telugu Association of North America (TANA) over phone about the incident. He said the mother and her son were strangulated to death.
Hanumantha Rao and Sasikala both were software professionals. Sasikala used to work from home. The couple had been living in the US for the last nine years.This is the latest in a series of incidents involving Indian techies. Last month, Indian techie Srinivas Kuchibothla was killed in a racially-motivated hate crime in Kansas that drew a large protest across several cities in US.
Raising the matter in Parliament on Friday, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Subbirami Reddy took it up during Zero Hour submissions and asked immediate attention of the government.
“I request Prime Minister to take up the matter with US President and seek assurance on the safety of Indians in the United States,” said Reddy.
Deputy Chairperson PJ Kurien also asked the government to take up the matter at the highest level of the government with their counterparts in the United States.
