Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said that the Congress has started making excuses for their defeat, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said: Congress is slowly becoming extinct
Addressing a press conference in the poll-bound Gujarat, Jaitley said that BJP had maintained its credibility whereas Congress was on the cusp of extinction.
After a massive victory in UP civic polls, the FM said that Gujarat was very important for the party and they have been consistently winning from there.
Jaitley also said that the 10 years UPA regime was the most corrupt government ever.
Jaitley said the reforms undertaken by PM Modi-led government were out of conviction, while reforms undertaken by the Congress-led government in the 90s were done under compulsion
He also talked about the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and said that he received good feedback from centres in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
He also said that the whole country was now a market for the trader, who also does not have to file multiple returns.
Jaitley told reporters here that results in the local body polls in Uttar Pradesh were an affirmation of people’s support for demonetisation and GST.
Referring to the GDP growth rising to 6.3 percent after a five-quarter slump, he said it shows that structural reforms benefit in the medium and long-term.
The minister said a single return is to be fied in place of multiple returns and that too is to put in the software and there is freedom from inspectors.
He said BJP got a three-fourth mandate in assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand after demonetisation, though some people had said that demonetisation will have a big impact.
“Today’s results in local body elections reaffirm the same,” he said.
