Budget Session begins with President’s joint address to both Houses of Parliament

The Budget Session of Parliament commenced today with President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament.

President Ram Nath Kovind delivered a speech in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has also called an all-party meeting at his residence. The meeting is aimed to ensure smooth conduct of proceedings during the Budget session.

Parliament’s budget session begins today and will continue till April 3.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union budget on 1st of February.

The first phase of the Budget session will be from 31 January to 11th February and the second one will be from 2 March to April 3

The session with 31 sittings will mainly be devoted to Financial Business relating to the Union Budget for 2020-21, and discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address.

The government has also identified 45 Bills and 7 financial items to be taken up during the session.

Rajya Sabha’s 251st session will begin today 45 minutes after the conclusion of the President’s Address.

Lok Sabha proceedings will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of President’s address.
