The cash-for-votes row between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) is set to reach Delhi. Governor ESL Narasimhan, who is serving as a Governor of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, is likely to meet the President, Prime Minster and Home Minister in the capital.
TDP is expected to hold a cabinet meet where the ministers will adopt a resolution against the alleged phone tapping by Telangana government.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has raided the residence of TDP MLA Revanth Reddy and 2 others in connection with the scam.
On Monday, an alleged audio conversation between Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson was leaked and aired by local TV channels. The conversation suggested that Naidu gave “assurance of all sorts” to the MLA if he voted for the TDP nominee in the Telangana Legislative Council election.
Chief Ministers of both the states traded charges against each other over Naidu’s alleged bribe offer, raising the political temperature in the bifurcated states.
Naidu lashed out, “When Andhra Pradesh is developing, this inefficient KCR (Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao) is unable to do anything and is conspiring against me.”
KCR was quick to hit back. He said, “Are we supposed to keep quiet when someone from a neighbouring state comes and wins a MLC seat by purchasing ruling party MLAs?”
It’s not just the TRS that is gunning for Naidu. The Congress and the YSR Congress led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy are also up in arms against Naidu’s “unethical practices.”
TDP MLA in Telangana A Revanth Reddy was arrested on May 31 by the Telangana ACB for allegedly trying to bribe nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson in exchange for his vote in the council polls.
