Dera violence: Congress pins the blame on Khattar

RSTV Bureau

Abhishek Manu Singhvi 1Opposition Congress has demanded Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s resignation and imposition of President’s Rule in the state after 32 people were killed in the violence that erupted after godman Ram Rahim’s followers went on a rampage.

“Total responsibility of law & order lies with the state administration,” Singhvi said.

The state failed its people, said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi in a press conference on Saturday morning.

Singhvi alleged that the death toll figures that were being reported were false.

“It is unprecedented that a situation like this came with a notice of seven days, but both the Haryana and the central governments remained mute, impotent spectators,” Singhvi said.

He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to Khattar, who is his ‘friend’.

On Friday violence erupted after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim was convicted for rape by a special CBI court in Panchkula.

Soon after the verdict was out, Dera supporters resorted to large scale violence across Punjab and Haryana, especially in Panckula and Sirsa. Thousands of the supporters who had gathered ahead of the verdict, clashed with police personnel, paramilitary forces and the Army.

Situation went out of control as the protesters torched media vehicles, burnt down two empty bogies of a train.

The clashes soon spread to parts of UP, Delhi and Rajasthan.
