Delhi university professor G N Saibaba has been booked by Maharashtra Police on Friday for his alleged connection with Maoists. In past six months he was interrogated several times by the police.
“We arrested Professor G N Saibaba this morning in Delhi and he will be brought to Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, after taking transit remand in a Delhi court,” said Gadchiroli DIG Ravindra Kadam to PTI over phone.
Kadam added that Saibaba has been arrested on charges of allegedly being a member of a banned terrorist organisation (CPI-Maoist), providing logistics and helping in recruitment for the group.
A police team from Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, which is hotbed of Maoist activities, arrived this morning and took him in custody.
Saibaba’s computer has already been taken by Gadchiroli police for forensic analysis. His name came into limelight after the arrest of Hemant Mishra, a Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student. Official sources said that Mishra was acting as a courier between Saibaba and Maoists.
