Education liberates us from narrow, tunnel vision: VP Naidu

Guru can never be replaced by Google, said Vice President Venkaiah Naidu while addressing the students of KIIS, Bhubaneshwar as he stressed on the merits of higher learning.

“Never forger four things in life — mother, mother tounge, motherland and guru. Guru can never be replaced by google,” he said at the 13th annual convocation of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneshwar.

VP-NaiduThe Vice President laid emphasis on learning new skills and acquiring new knowledge is vital in today’s knowledge economy.

“Upgrading our competence, updating our knowledge and adapting to a rapidly changing work environment is the need of the hour,” he said.

Evoking history of Odisha, the Vice President said it was in this historic land of Utkala that one of India’s greatest emperors – Ashoka – “transformed” from being a ferocious king to a pious, development oriented monarch.

“Education is that which liberates… according to our ancient visionaries. It should liberate us from narrow, tunnel vision. It should liberate us from prejudices, hatred, intolerance,” he said.

Calling the students as “inheritors” of a great Indian culture of of valued learning and knowledge, the Vice President said “Accessing, adopting, adapting and assimilation of new ideas has been India’s strength”.

VP-incpects-gaurd-of-honourIndia never attacked any country but it faced attacks from several small countries in the past. But none could change its culture that emphasized inclusion, truth, righteousness and welfare of all, the VP added in his address to the students.

Odhisha Governor SC Jamir, Subrat Kumar Acharya, Chancellor of KIIT University and other senior officials of the university were present at the occasion.

Earlier in the day, Vice President Naidu was accorded Guard of Honour at Raj Bhavan.
