Empower women leaders at panchayats: PM

Speaking at the valedictory session of National Conference of Women Legislators in The national capital on Sunday, Prime Minister pitched for a specialised E-platform for women representatives for effective communication and empowerment.

“Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha should explore options to build e-platform for women representatives for direct communication with public, “said Modi.

Prime Minister said that Budgets & infrastructures don’t only strengthen nations. ‘Citizen of India strengthens the nation & a Mother strengthens a citizen,’ he said.

While addressing the second day of the first ever national conference of women legislators and law makers, PM asked women law makers to keep in regular touch with Panchayat Sarpanch’s in their constituency and build confidence in them.

“Your constituents will have access to mobile phones. Have you tried to connect with them through technology? ”asked Prime Minister.

Prime Minister urged the legislators to use technological means to contribute in empowering country.

“We will have to cope up with it and I am convinced women can adapt better to technology,” he said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said women legislators across the country got an opportunity to visit the historic central hall of the parliament and understand crucial issues of governance.

“MLAs & MLCs got an opportunity to visit Central Hall & get a glimpse of some Parliamentary traditions,” said Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Majahan

Former President Pratibha Patil also addressed session. In her address she quoted former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru and said ‘If you educate a man you educate a person, if you educate a woman you educate the whole family.’

The two-day national conference of women law makers began on March 5 with the inaugural address of President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari.
