Fake degree case: Tomar’s bail plea rejected

tomar_policeIn a setback for Aam Admi Party Leader and former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar, Delhi sessions court rejected his bail plea in the alleged fake degree case.

The court rejected Tomar’s interim bail plea, saying it will further complicate the matter in the present circumstances and deferred the hearing in the case till June 16.

The Saket court also dismissed Tomar’s plea challenging his arrest but granted him permisiion to file a fresh plea in the case.

Tomar, who is presently in police custody for 4 days, was questioned for the second day in Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. He was kept at an undisclosed location during the night.

Delhi police is in the process of gathering evidence against the alleged fake graduation and law degrees provided by Tomar.

Tomar was taken to the Saket Degree College in Faizabad where documents were being examined, police said.

On Wednesday, RML Awadh University in Faizabad said that Tomar was never a student there, a claim that Tomar had made. Tomar claims to have done his BSc from there.

“One Pradeep Kumar had filed an RTI asking for verification of a set of documents related to Tomar’s mark sheets and degree. The university had replied on January 22 saying it had nothing of that sort in its records. We stand by our previous stand,” its media in-charge S N Shukla said.

A Delhi Police team also cross-checked Tomar’s documents at the Awadh University Registrar’s office.

Tomar will be taken to Bhagalpur in Bihar on Thursday, where he claims to have procured his law degree from. AAP leader claims that he received his law degree from Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University.
