Congress vice president Rahul Gandih took on the Modi government raising the issue of agrarian crisis and farmers vows twice in two days. A day after demanding “Kisan budget” at his on-going Kisan rally in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, he reiterated the same accusing BJP-led NDA government of not paying any heed to the problem of farmers.

“After I suggested bringing Kisan budget, Arun Jaitleyji said why did not Rahul Gandhi say this when his UPA government was in power, I did not say this as farmers had confidence that Congress will do justice for them in the general budget itself”, Gandhi said.

“When the Congress party waived off farmers’ loan we did a big rally in Delhi… all including the then PM Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and I myself told the people what we have done…the meaning is that when some step like this is taken leaders tell the public about it,” he said.

Earlier, citing Centre’s recent move of merging Railway budget with the General budget, Gandhi had called for the introduction of “Kisan Budget” aimed at betterment of agrarian sector and facilitating policies and programmes to ensure farmers get the right price for their produce.

“I have heard the railway budget is being merged with the general budget. If this can be done, I would ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prepare ‘Kisan budget’,” he said at his Khaat Sabha in Ghatampur.

With leitmotifs like cots, Congress party has carefully woven its strategy on wooing the farmers in Uttar Pradesh through its ‘Khaat Sabha’.

The grand old party is in deep disarray in its once hunting ground. Relegated to the margins in the UP, due to rise of the BJP and two parties – SP and BSP – dominating the political space for more than two decades, Congress vice president is going all-out to bring his party back in the fray.

Criticising the Centre and Prime Minister Modi, in particular, Rahul Gandhi claimed that government has waived-off huge amounts to the Industrialists.

“…in the past two and a half years, Narendra Modi has waived off Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand crores , we had waived off Rs 70,000 crore, why is Modiji, Jaitleyji and Gadkariji not saying anything on it… they are silent because they have given this waiver to 10 to 12 biggest industrialist of the country,” he said during his rally.

Interacting further with the locals, the Congress vice president alleged that in the past over two year, PM Modi has only travelled abroad which has not helped the common people in anyway.

“Have you been benefitted from any of the poll promises made by Modi like Rs 15 lakh in their accounts or jobs to two crore youths?,” was one of his questions.

Gandhi began his Deoria to Dilli Kisan Yatra on September 6. Encompassing over 2500 kilometres, his yatra will cover over 200 constituencies.
