The first session of the 6th Delhi legislative assembly begins on Monday.
This time the scene at the Delhi’s assembly will be quite different from the earlier assemblies where there will be virtually no opposition.
After one year of governor’s rule, the landslide victory of the AAP, which it got by fetching 67 assembly seats out of 70, makes AAP the single largest party in the house with its legislators. This time the assembly will witness participation of only 2 parties: AAP and the BJP.
BJP, which had won 3 seats will find themselves in a corner but will try their best to make themselves relevant in the house.
In addition to Governor Najeeb Jung’s address, the election of speaker will be a major event scheduled in the two- day session of Delhi’s assembly
This is the first time in Delhi’s assembly history that there is not a single legislature from the Congress party, which ruled Delhi consecutively for the last fifteen years. The house will also not witness any independents this time.
After the previous 49 days government led by Arvind Kejriwal that led to his resignation over not getting support from the opposition to pass the Lokpal Bill, this time Vidhan Sabha will witness only the AAP legislatures in terms of numerical strength. Apparently, passing the desired bills this time will not be a tough task for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
This session is also important because the newly elected legislators will take oath of office, of which many of them have no previous experience of Legislative process.
