To ensure that there is no shortage of masks, NITI Aayog’s Women Entrepreneurship Platform has come up with a mask-making initiative called ‘Masking it Up with WEP’. Through the initiative, the government seeks to engage female entrepreneurs and home-based women workers for the production of masks.

These female entrepreneurs have been hard hit because of the lockdown and are struggling to make ends meet. To facilitate these women, WEP, through its mask-making initiative, will provide them a source of income. Not just that, the initiative will also help combat the shortage of surgical and reusable cloth masks in the country.

Women Entrepreneurship Platform seeks to bring together organisations that have the capacity to supply and procure raw materials and manufacture and distribute cloth masks in India.

The NITI Aayog initiative also aims to promote and support aspiring as well as established women entrepreneurs in India. It assists them in their journey from the beginning, till they scale up and expand their ventures.
