In another tremendous achievement for the Indian contingent in Gold Coast, Heena Sidhu won gold in 25-meter pistol event. India’s gold tally now stands at 11 in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, whereas its overall tally is at 20.
Sidhu defeated Australian shooter Elena Galiabovitch to win the women’s 25-metre pistol event winning her second medal at the Games, after her silver in the women’s 10m air pistol behind Manu Bhaker.
Till Round 2, both Heena abd Galiabovitch were locked in a joint second position, while compatriot Annu Raj Singh was lower down the rung at joint 5th. Rounds after rounds, Heena gained the lead ahead of the second-placed Australian by 2 shots.
Hailing Sidhu’s victory a “Golden Record”, former Olympic medal winner and Union Rajyavardhan Rathore tweeted, “Congratulations to @HeenaSidhu10 for snatching a in the 25 m air pistol event with a record setting performance. Women power roaring at #CWG2018 #IndiaAtCWG”.
“Indian women don’t just believe in winning medals, they like shattering records in doing so!,” he said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Annu Raj Singh, who was second in qualification, was unable to find her rhythm and went out in sixth place.
