Ahead of the Budget session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked all political parties to help pass the triple talaq bill in the Parliament. He termed it a New Year gift to Muslim women. Earlier on Sunday, in an all-party meeting, he had sought the cooperation of the political parties to collectively make this Budget Session a successful one.

The budget session is very important and his government is taking all the suggestions made by the opposition party very sincerely, he had said during an all-party meeting.

Terming the all party meet as ‘fruitful’, Parliamentary Affairs Minsiter Ananth Kumar said that the centre hopes to pass ‘Triple Talaq’ Bill by persuading all the parties to pass it unanimously in the Upper House

The Centre also hopes to consolidate its support among backward classes by giving constitutional status to the OBC commission.

The prime minister also stressed the need to strengthen the system of Parliamentary Committees, where members spoke freely in the absence of the media and deliberated on issues of national interest.

He urged all political parties to avoid “tokenism” in the Standing Committees of Parliament and asked them to give concrete solutions to issues of national importance.

The all-party meeting, a convention before every session of parliament, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and Ananth Kumar, as well as leaders of opposition and other parties.
