Protests continue in Rajya Sabha on March 21, 2018.

On Wednesday, both Houses of Parliament adjourned for the day without business transaction.

In the Rajya Sabha, as the proceedings began, ministers Arun Jaitley, Dharmendra Pradhan, Santosh Gangwar, Mahesh Sharma and Kiren Rijiju laid papers on various issues on the table.

But as soon as Chairman announced zero hour proceedings, some members raised slogans and began protests on state specific issues. MPs from Andhra demanded a special status for Andhra Pradesh and MPs from Tamil Nadu again raised the Cauvery water issue, demanding the constitution of a Cauvery board.

Amid protests Leader of Opposition, Ghulam Nabi Azad demanded discussions on the SC/ST Act and the statement made by External Affairs Minister on the death of 39 Indians working in Iraq.

The Chairman dismissed Azad’s request asking him for a prior notice on the given issues.

MoS parliamentary affairs Vijay Goel urged the members to allow the House to function as many important bills were pending for discussion. But soon the Chairman adjourned the House for the day amid continuing protests.

In the Lok Sabha too no business was transacted and the House was adjourned for the day.

As soon as the House met, members from TRS and AIADMK trooped into the Well of House raising slogans in support of their demands. TRS members were demanding increase in the reservation quota for jobs in Telangana while AIADMK members wanted the setting up of Cauvery Management Board.

Amid noisy scenes, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House within minutes.
