Taliban attacks in Afghanistan, mutual cooperation, defence and strategic partnerships were key issues discussed in the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday.
Terming the relation between India Afghanistan timeless links of human hearts, both the leaders advocated the need to stand united in the subcontinent and globally continue the same phenomenon. PM Modi assured the Afghanistan premier that India will walk shoulder to shoulder with the people of Afghanistan and especially in its mission of global importance.
Addressing the joint press conference at Hyderabad House in Delhi, President Ghani termed India as an important strategic partner and said that both the countries are determined to change regional nature of cooperation.
He also shared his “pain of terrorism” and said “the terror cannot be classified into good or bad, shadow of terror haunts our children, women & youth, terror must be confronted and must be overcome.”
Afghan Premier also shared his impressive vision for Afghanistan’s prosperity, based on its talent, resources and location.
Conveying his support for President Ghani’s vision of peace and stability in Afghanistan, PM Modi said,” We stand with the people of Afghanistan as they build united, stable, democratic and prosperous nation. We will be supporting you rebuild your homes and reconstruct your heritage”.
Prime Minister Modi also stressed the need to address the needs of children in post-war torn region.
It was Ghani’s first tour to India after taking over as the President of Afghanistan. He also thanked India to be generous as India is the fifth largest donor to Afghanistan.
Earlier, the Afghan premier paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi at Rajghat and followed that with a visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was given a ceremonial welcome.
President Ghani also had a meeting with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the Dwarka Suite of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
