India launched their campaign in ICC World Cup 2019 with a win against South Africa in the first league match.

Looking for a win after two straight defeats, South Africa team won the toss and elected to bat first but failed to put on a solid score as Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal restricted the team to 227 runs. Chahal in his first world cup outing grabbed four wickets for 51 runs.

Pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up two wickets each.

Chasing 228 runs for a win, India lost some early wickets. Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul were dismissed without scoring much.

But an unbeaten 122 by Vice Captain Rohit Sharma ensured India starts its campaign on a winning note.
