Jaitley accuses AAP, Kejriwal of making false statements

Kejriwal-presserUnion Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday recorded his statement at Patiala House court in a criminal defamation complaint filed by him against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and five other leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In his complaint filed before the magisterial court, Arun Jaitley accused them of making false statements against him and his family members in a controversy concerning the Delhi cricket body — DDCA.

“Statements have been made to deflect attention from CBI probe against a particular person working with Kejriwal,” Arun Jaitley said recording his statement before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal.

In his statement, he further took on the Delhi Chief Minister and the ruling AAP, who had alleged that irregularities were conducted in Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) when he was at its helm.

“During my tenure as DDCA President, I have not received any money from anybody,” Arun Jaitley said adding, “Kejriwal has falsely stated that money was siphoned off and I was the beneficiary, says Jaitley”.

“Feroz Shah Kotla stadium built during my tenure; DDCA Board had authorised a committee to supervise construction,” he further added elaborating on his statement.

The Union Finance minister had on December 21 filed criminal defamation case against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders — Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpai – for allegedly defaming him and sought their prosecution for offences that entail a punishment of up to two years in jail.

The complaint was filed under various sections of the IPC including 499 (defamation), 500 (punishment), 501 and 502 (printing and sale of defamatory matter).

Arun Jaitley had further added that such statements have been made orally and through Twitter handle of the AAP leaders which have been carried by electronic and print media from December 15 to December 20.
