Six coaches of Puri-Haridwar-Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Muzaffarnagar’s Khatauli on Saturday. Twenty three people have been killed and several others were injured in the incident.
“The incident took place at 5:50 pm today; 5 coaches of the train have derailed, there could be injuries in this,” Railways spokesperson Anil Saxena said.
Rescue operations which began soon after the incident occurred, are said to have been completed.

Police and emergency teams had rushed to the spot to carry out rescue work. Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted to say that he was personally monitoring the situation and was in constant touch with officials.

NDRF teams had also been mobilized for rescue operation at Khatauli railway station in Muzaffarnagar.
