Rich tributes are flowing in for possibly one of the most popular Presidents of the Union. Not just the political leaders but even the artists and prominent personalities from all walks of the life have condoled Dr. Kalam’s demise. Several school students across the country too paid emotional tributes drawing inspiration from his several achievements.
Residents at some localities even observed a candle light vigil in Dr. Kalam’s remembrance.
Several Bollywood celebrities and stars mourned the demise of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, calling his death a great loss to the country.
“Our former President of India passes away suddenly… sudden end to an iconic figure,” Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog.
Four-time National Award-winning composer Rahman said the country lost an “inspiring mind”.
“Today, we have lost a great leader who inspired our young minds to feel that we live in the greatest nation on earth and that each one of them can achieve great things…May the creator lead you to heaven,” Rahman posted on his internet social network site Facebook.
Veteran playback singer and Bollywood’s evergreen voice Lata Mangeshkar also took to Facebook to pay her condolence.
“I have just been informed that our former President, Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has passed away. I am saddened by the news. I knew him very well personally. He was a great scientist, a human being and a good poet. I pay my tribute to him. May he rest in peace,” she said.
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan also paid tributes terming Dr. Kalam’s demise as a “big loss”.
“The way he led his life was exemplary. The way he thought, the way he spoke, the way he lived… all that should be a torchlight guiding us and we should keep him alive in our hearts,” said Rajya Sabha MP and prominent bollywood screenwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar.
India’s first female President, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil too paid tributes to her predecessor.
Several Governors, Lt Governors and Chief Ministers and senior bureaucrats of the states extended their condolences to the departed former head of the state.
Recalling his association with Kalam, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the country and he “benefitted immensely from his advice”.
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), where Dr. APJ Kalam spent nearly four decades and served as its chief, paid homage saying, “Dr. Kalam continues to live in the hearts of every Indian and his spirit will continue to guide all of us in DRDO. Dr. Kalam his spirit will continue to guide all of us in DRDO to march ahead in fulfilling his dreams of achieving self reliance”.
