However the party spokespersons of Shiv Sena and BJP maintained that the meeting is related to Presidential Elections scheduled to take place on July 17.  BJP President is expected to build consensus with its allies like TDP and Shiv Sena over their candidate.

But, the meeting has a specific significance in Maharashtra context, It is the first formal meeting of two party Chiefs after Maharshtra CM hinted at Mid-term polls.

Recently, Shiv Sena has been playing the role of an opposition to the government by taking up farmers’ strike to the streets in Maharashtra.

“BJP President will meet Udhav Thackeray. It was in response to an invitation extended by Uddhavji during his earlier visit to Delhi to attend the NDA meeting,” said BJP state president, Raosaheb Danve.

PM-Modi-Jaitley-Amith-Shah-NDA-MeetMaharashtra CM Fadnavis made the remark on Wednesday in reference to reports speculating mid-term polls in the state against the backdrop of farmers’ stir for loan waiver in view of the agrarian crisis.

“Some people said (when the agitation was on) that they will bring the government down, they will withdraw support. I said we are ready for mid-term polls. If someone wants to impel us to go for mid-term polls, I am confident we will be able to form government again,” Fadnavis told reporters without naming any party.

Talking to a Marathi news channel recently, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had suggested that his party, a BJP ally in the state government, would withdraw support if the loan waiver was not announced

Shiv Sena had been playing a double role of an alliance partner as well as opposition on all important policy issues.

Although the farmers’ strike has been called off, Thackeray has been trying to steer the pitch to keep the BJP-led government on the back foot. He has been demanding a total loan waiver in the state.
