Mumbai Police along with Coast Guard have launched search operation to trace the four men.
The Western Naval Command (WNC) issued “the highest state of alert” along the Mumbai, Navi Mumbai- Thane – Raigad coasts after suspicious movement of a group was reported in Uran.
Security has been beefed up at sensitive locations along the coast, including the Gateway of India, Raj Bhawan, Bombay High (rig), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and other major establishments near the sea. The government run power giant ONGC has a plant at Uran and also a few container terminals.
According to initial information received by the authorities, four school students spotted a group of people dressed in uniform similar to that of Indian Army near Uran and Karanja area. The DGP office immediately issued alerts to all police stations along the coast.
The school children who spotted the suspected men are being questioned by Navi Mumbai Commissioner of Police as well as other top police officials in Uran to gather more details.
Suspicious movement of people in Uran creates alarms in Mumbai as it reminds of the 26/11 attack where around 166 people were killed in 2008. Uran is 50 kilo metres away from Mumbai and is close to important locations like the Jawaharlal Nehru Port and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
