Nation remembers Arun Jaitley on his first death anniversary

The nation paid rich tributes to BJP stalwart former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on his first death anniversary.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu paid tribute to former union minister, describing him as a multi-faceted personality who served the nation with distinction.

A politician, lawyer and a Union minister, Arun Jaitley played many roles in his public life. He died last year after prolonged illness.

“I pay my humble tributes to my friend, Shri Arun Jaitley Ji on his death anniversary. Shri Jaitley was a multi-faceted personality and served the nation with distinction in various capacities,” Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu wrote on Twitter.

Besides Vice President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remembered his late Cabinet colleague and friend of many decades Arun Jaitley on his first death anniversary and said he diligently served India.

The Prime Minister tweeted, “On this day, last year, we lost Shri Arun Jaitley Ji. I miss my friend a lot. Arun Ji diligently served India. His wit, intellect, legal acumen and warm personality were legendary.”

Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “Remembering Arun Jaitley ji, an outstanding politician, prolific orator and a great human being who had no parallels in Indian polity. He was multifaceted and a friend of friends, who will always be remembered for his towering legacy, transformative vision and devotion to nation.”

Jaitley, had first become a Cabinet Minister in the government of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2000. He then went on to serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

He was appointed the Finance Minister in the first term of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government in 2014. He opted out of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections citing
heath reasons and died at the age of 66 on August 24, 2019.
