Need to create good infrastructure for sports: VP

Addressing the launch of a Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports portal on Monday, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said that India needs to create good infrastructure for sports in all states and nurture sporting talent from an early age.

“Need infrastructure for sports in all states and more training academies & coaching centres to turn our young men & women into sports stars,” Naidu said.

The Vice President said that sports empowers individuals, transforms communities and inspires populations towards positive change.

“Sport inculcates leadership skills, team spirit and enables a person to develop a sense of equanimity during a win or a loss,” the Vice President said.

He also stressed how sports plays an important role in improving physical and mental health of the people, and fostering active citizenship and social inclusion.

There is evidence that sport and play enhance child development, learning and encourage better academic performance, the Vice President said.

The platform of National Sports Talent Search Portal will be a game changer and enable the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sports Authority of India to select the best, Naidu said after launching the portal.
