BJP MLA Sangeet Som on called off his rally Paidal Nirbhay Yatra on Thursday after UP government denied permission and imposed section 144 in Kairana. Som prepared to begin his rally cancelled it after being stopped by authorities.

“Som had started his rally to Kairana from his house in Sardhana with thousands of followers but was stopped at the border of the town keeping in mind the situation,” said Meerut District Collector Pankaj Yadav.

Som has also warned the authorities to take necessary action to prevent people migrating from Kairana and ensure security to the locals. Earlier, the District Magistrate had denied permission to Sangeet Som’s ‘Paidal Nirbhay Yatra’ across western Uttar Pradesh from Friday.

“We’ve given a 15 days ultimatum. Either the government gets back the people who’ve migrated or we’ll have to take to the streets. If in 15 days they do not return we’re warning that no one will be able to stop BJP workers from going to Kairana or to any other place,” said Som.

A rally by Samawadi Party, led by party leader Atul Pradhan, was also stopped some distance from Sardhana town limits

“As a precautionary measure police and PAC have been stationed in heavy numbers. Section 144 is in force. No one will be allowed to break the law in this situation,” said Yadav

Officials said that prohibitory orders are enforced across Shamli district, including Kairana town, and any march or yatra with political leaders would not be allowed without permission.

All entrances to Kairana have been sealed with the deployment of paramilitary forces with security officials keeping a watch on the situation.

Meanwhile the ruling trashed the charges of “exodus” and accused the BJP of vitiating the communal atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2017 Assembly polls.

“There is no exodus in Kairna or anywhere in the state. We have intelligence and other reports in this regard. BJP leaders including Hukum Singh and others are inciting communal passions for political gains as Assembly elections are near,” said cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav.

The Minister said that BJP is involved in all illegal works including grabbing land and fake currency trade. We are also initiating probe against them and strict action will be taken.
