Expressing grief over the bus accident in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh, where more than 50 persons are reported to have been killed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared his condolences, besides wishing speedy recovery to the ones injured.
“News of bus accident in Panna, MP is extremely saddening. Condolences to families of the deceased. I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” PM said.
As per the latest round of reports, at least 50 bus passengers were killed and 20 others critically injured when a private bus they were travelling in slipped off a small bridge and fell into a drain. The bus had caught fire soon after the fall, hampering the escape of the passengers stuck inside. According to the eyewitnesses and survivors, the rapidly spreading fire inside the bus made situation even more fatal.
The accident happened in the Panna district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday afternoon.
“We have pulled out 21 charred bodies from the bus which was on its way to Satna district from Chhatarpur district,” Superintendent of Police I P Arjaria told the press. The injured persons were rushed to the nearby hospital where they continue to battle the critical injuries.
Investigating the matter, local police claimed that the bus skidded off a bride after its driver lost control and couldn’t prevent it from falling down into a 15 feet drain. The diesel tank of the bus exploded soon after it skidded off a bridge and fell feet down into a drain. The explosion resulted into a massive fire which gutted the vehicle completely.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 to the seriously injured and the injured victims, respectively. CM has further ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi also extended their condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.
