Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday termed the passage of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the Rajya Sabha as a landmark day for India and its ethos of compassion and brotherhood.
Calling it a landmark day for India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “A landmark day for India and our nation’s ethos of compassion and brotherhood! Glad that the #CAB2019 has been passed in the #RajyaSabha. Gratitude to all the MPs who voted in favour of the Bill. This Bill will alleviate the suffering of many who faced persecution for years.”
In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said the Citizenship Amendment Bill will alleviate sufferings of many who faced persecution for years.
He also expressed gratitude to all the Members of Parliament who voted in favour of the Bill.
Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted soon after the Rajya Sabha passed the bill. He said, the dreams of crores of deprived and victimised people have come true.
Amit Shah said he is grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his resolve to ensure dignity and safety for the affected people. He also thanked everyone for their support.
BJP working president J P Nadda called it a historic legislation which will do justice to the minorities of the neighbouring countries who faced religious persecution.
He added that, the bill will provide the minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan facing religious persecution an opportunity to lead a dignified life in India.
