Ahead of being sworn in as the prime minister for the second consecutive term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
He later visited Sadaiv Atal Samadhi and paid tribute to late ex-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Several BJP leaders including BJP President Amit Shah and other party leaders including JP Nadda, Piyush Goyal, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Prakash Javdekar, Giriraj Singh were also present and paid tributes
He also visited National War Memorial and paid tribute to India’s martyrs before taking oath as the prime minister for the second consecutive term today.
Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman also joined PM Modi and other BJP leaders at the memorial. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba and Vice Chief of Air Force Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria were also present.
PM Modi and his council of ministers are set to take the oath of office for the second time in a row at 7:00 PM on Thursday.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, attended by nearly 8,000 guests, including foreign dignitaries and chief ministers and governors. President Ram Nath Kovind will administer the oath of office to Modi.
