While campaigning in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad over his “Hindus also eat beef” remark.

PM Modi called Lalu’s comments on beef as an “abuse” and “huge insult” to the Yadav clan (Yaduvanshis).

“What all is he (Lalu) saying. What all Yadavs eat? Whatever position Lalu rose to, it was because of these Yaduvanshis and he insulted them. What kind of abuses you are hurling at them. Is it not an insult of Yadavs and Bihar? Do not humiliate the Yaduvanshis so much? Laluji, these Yaduvanshis helped you to come to power,” said Modi in Munger.

Not just that, Modi even mocked Lalu’s reported clarification. Lalu in his original comment had said that “Hindus also eat beef”, but later after a backlash from his alliance partners, Lalu reportedly said that he was under the influence of some ‘shaitan (devil)’ when he made the comment.

“I wonder the devil got only his (Lalu) body to enter. I want to know how the shaitan got the address (of Lalu). The devil got no other body in entire Bihar, India and the whole world except that of his,” Modi ridiculed Lalu on Thursday in the hope of bringing a divide in the Yadav votes.

Modi stepped up his attack on Lalu by making repeated references to his comment on beef. He also called the Grand Alliance of JDU-RJD and Congress a ‘Maha Swarth Gathbandhan (alliance of great opportunism)’. He alleged that the Lalu-Nitish duo was responsible for Bihar’s backwardness.

While wooing the crowds at Munger, Begusarai, Samastipur and Navada in Bihar, he warned the people to reject the Grand Alliance as it will ensure Jungle Raj 2″.

“Do you want jungle raj or development….Bihar has youth and water as its main assets. But both have been exploited and not utilised for development…. Give us a chance, come out in large numbers to vote. Ensure that no ‘shaitan’ returns… vote in large numbers,” Modi appealed to the people.

Both Nitish and Lalu were quick to hit back at Modi for giving a communal spin to the polls in Bihar. Lalu took a dig at Modi for continuing to be silent on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement on reviewing the reservation policy.

“Why are you (Modi) silent on reservation policy? If you support Bhagwat’s views, say so or else throw him out,” Lalu told reporters in Patna.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar too left no stone unturned in hitting back.

“The real Modi on display — brazen attempt to add communal texture to Bihar polls, but deafening silence on deplorable incident of Dadri,” Nitish Kumar tweeted minutes after PM attacked Lalu.

“First he said there is a flaw in our DNA. Then he dubbed Bihar as BIMARU and its populace unfortunate. Now he has attacked the Grand Alliance and Lalu ji as shaitan,” Nitish tweeed.

Lalu also took to twitter saying, “I challenge Modi to show me my ‘shaitan’ comment or else publicly apologise from the people of Bihar for insulting them by this barb on me.”

The first phase of polling in Bihar begins on October 12. With just 4 days to go, the war-of-words between political parties has undoubtedly become more loud and caustic.
