Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort.

In a veiled attack at the Congress, PM Modi referred to the coal and 2G scams that occurred during the UPA regime.

“We all know about coal scam of the earlier times. Today, there is no taint on us. We auctioned coal online, without any corruption charges levelled against us due to transparency,” said the Prime Minister while lauding his government’s efforts in tackling corruption.

The Prime Minister went on to emphasize how his government was transforming the nation.

“I have tried to adopt the strategy of reform, perform and transform…we have made efforts in every sector,” said PM Modi.

“For us, image of the nation is more important than the image of the Government,” added the PM.

The Congress was quick to react to PM’s speech, especially after he made a reference to the party linking it to corruption.

“Deeply disappointed by PM’s speech today…he gave an election speech…he must rise above party politics,” said senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid.

The Congress also slammed PM’s reference to Baluchistan in his speech.
