64.11 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Voting for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 12 seats in Rajasthan, 7 seats each in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, 5 seats in Bihar, 4 seats in Jharkhand, 2 seats in Jammu & Kashmir took place in this phase.
57.76% estimated voter turn out was recorded in Bihar, 19.55% in Jammu and Kashmir, 69.02% in Madhya Pradesh, 63.72% in Rajasthan, 57.92% in Uttar Pradesh, 79.96% in West Bengal, 65.12% in Jharkhand.
51 Lok Sabha constituencies across 7 states headed for polls. Over 8.75 crore voters deciding the fate of 674 candidates. Over 96,000 polling booths were in place for smooth conduct of polls.
Uttar Pradesh had the maximum number of polling booths of 28,072. Jammu and Kashmir had the least number of polling booths of 1,254
Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency (PC) in Jammu & Kashmir going to polls in Phase III, Phase IV & Phase V, the only such PC in the country.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Arjun Ram Meghwal and Jayant Sinha, besides Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia among prominent candidates who contested in the fifth phase.
Former union ministers Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Shakeel Ahmed, Subodh Kant Sahay, Jitin Prasada besides Dinesh Trivedi and former Chief Ministers – Mehbooba Mufti, Babulal Marandi are also in the fray.
With this phase, the election got over in 424 seats and polling in the remaining 118 seats will be held on May 12 and 19.
Election to 542 Lok Sabha seats is being conducted in seven phases between April 11 and May 19. The election in Vellore constituency in Tamil Nadu had been cancelled following excess use of money power.
Results will be declared on May 23.
