Finally, the predicted ousting of Prashant and Yogendra has been done by ¾ majority in the National Council meet of Aam Aadmi Party. The full-blown factional differences in Aam Aadmi Party reached its peak on Saturday morning.
With face-off between the Yadav-Bhushan faction and Kejriwal faction getting worse by the day, the National Council meet moved and subsequently passed a resolution amid chaos to remove co-founders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav from the frontal body-National Executive.
Earlier this month the two were ousted from the Political Affairs Committee.
Along with Yadav and Bhushan, senior members Professor Anand Kumar and Ajit Jha too were sacked from the National Executive.
Drama unfolded quickly even before the 300-member National Executive sat as volunteers and supporters crowded outside the venue Celesta resort, a farm house in South Delhi. First, the party Lokpal Admiral Ramdas was told over the SMS by a party General Secretary not to attend the meet terming it an ‘internal affair’ of the party.
Soon after Yogendra Yadav made this public, he along with Prashant Bhushan and eight others too were not allowed inside the venue after which he sat on a dharna outside the venue coming in face to face with the supporters of Kejriwal faction.
Yadav insisted that the ‘legitimate’ members were not allowed inside the meeting.
As the meeting began, chaos too ensued inside. Kejriwal reportedly made an emotional pitch to convey his point to the members and cadres. The point being, he and the party can no longer work with Yadav-Bhushan and their supporters.
As Kejriwal left the meet soon after he wrapped up his speech, scuffle broke out between Kejriwal faction and the dissenting voices with Kejriwal supporters allegedly manhandling the supporters of Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav.
“It was all scripted. It was a murder of democracy, bouncers and goons dragged those who raised questions” said Yadav as the press jostled outside the venue.
Prashant Bhushan too strongly reacted to the way events unfolded. “There were goons, some of them are also the MLAs of Delhi. Ramzan Chaudhary, office bearer from Haryana unit was kicked and punched. Just like Kejriwal could be heard saying in a sting tape” told angry Prashant Bhushan.
However, Aam Aadmi Party in the reaction said that media should ignore the rumors spread by some people. Party also denied any clashes and violence at the meeting and stated that both Bhushan and Yadav are making false statements.
AAP senior member Ashutosh in a series of tweets said “Media should not buy a cooked up story of man handling and presence of bouncers. YY/PB Is spreading lies” followed by “YY/PB should not create drama or farce outside NC. They have been expelled because they wanted party to loose and wanted party to break.”
