President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 22 children at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan today.
16 year-old Muhammed Muhsin from Kozhikode in Kerala, who drowned while saving three of his friends in the rough sea in April last year was awarded Abhimanyu Award posthumously.
Among other awardees in the bravery category include Ishaan Sharma from Haryana, Lalkansung from Manipur, Pema from Arunachal Pradesh, Soumyadip Jana from West Bengal.
The names of the awardees 10 girls and 12 boys were announced by the Indian Council for Child Welfare on Tuesday.
The National Bravery Awards were started by ICCW in 1957 to recognise children for outstanding deeds of bravery and meritorious service and to inspire others to emulate their example.
