For the second time in three days, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi took on NDA government terming it pro-Corporate. This time the issue was debate on net neutrality on the floor of the lower house.
Terming the issue of Net Neutrality is a very important one, Rahul Gandhi took up his fight with the government saying, “everyone should have Net ka Adhikaar. Every youth in this country should have right of the free internet”.
“Mai aapkay pradhan mantri kii prashansa karna chahta hoon. Achcha desh kay pradhan mantri, aapkay nahi (Want to praise your Prime Minister. Ok Nation’s PM, not yours, but nation’s PM.)” said Rahul Gandhi as the member from the ruling stood up objecting to the opposition leader’s political overtones.
Continuing his intervention during the Zero hour Rahul Gandhi said, “I want to speak on net neutrality. Government wants to distribute the internet among big industrialists. Over 1 million people are fighting for net neutrality and the government is trying to carve out the net and hand it over to the corporates. “
“Youth have voted for it and they have even taken up the issue on social network. I would like to ask the TRAI to look into this issue with seriousness” added Gandhi.
Amid the heated interventions from both the sides, the Union IT and Telecom Minister Ravi Shanker Prasad said “Prime Minister Modi has said that everyone should have access to the internet. Our Prime Minister has said that every youth of this country should get freedom to access the internet. We want to tell the house that our Government supports right to internet, not under pressure from any corporate. “
Telling the house that his department is looking into an important issue, he added “TRAI will look into the TRAI act but it is me and my government who will decide on the issue. I have asked my department to give me report within 2 days.”
This is his second attack on the BJP-led NDA government in three days after he returned for his 56-days leave of absence last week. On Monday he had spoken on the issue of ordinance on the land acquisition which has generated a lot of political heat. There again Rahul Gandhi had alleged NDA government of framing policies to suit the interests of the corporate houses.
Rahul Gandhi’s active intervention in the Parliament is followed by a return as an aggressive political activist in Sunday’s farmers rally organised by the Congress party. There again Rahul Gandhi along with the top leadership of Congress party had termed the Land Ordinance brought in by the NDA government as “anti-farmer” and “pro-corporate”.
