Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not keeping the promises made to the voters during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls campaign, Congress party Vice President Rahul Gandhi once again dubbed his government as anti-poor. Addressing an election rally at Sheikhpura in Bihar, he launched frontal attack on the BJP-led NDA government alleging them of working only for the rich while the poor and weaker sections continue to suffer. Bihar assembly goes to poll next week where the incumbent Nitish Kumar-led ‘Grand Allaince’ is facing a very stiff challenge from the BJP-led four-party NDA.

“A year ago, Narendra Modiji won the elections and you all are aware of the promises he made. He had made several promises, including of bringing back black money and depositing Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s bank account, employment for youth hiking minimum support prices for the farmer’s produce,” Rahul Gandhi said.

“Please tell me, is there any one person out here who has Rs 15 lakh in his account?… He has not fulfilled even one promise,” the Congress party Vice President added referring to the oft-repeated phrase of “Rs 15 lakh” at the time of election campaigning.

Once again stressing on his line of attack, which he has been consistent with, Rahul Gandhi claimed that PM Modi has all along only supported his “corporate friends.”

For the last few months now, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party has been accusing the Modi-led government at the Centre of being ‘anti-poor’ and ‘anti-farmer’. Mr. Gandhi has regularly criticised the Prime Minister even tagging his government as ‘suit-boot ki sarkaar’.

Addressing the rally further, he claimed that while farmers were committing suicide in states like Punjab, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the “Prime Minister has kept quiet on the issue of compensation to distressed farmers”.

Taking another jibe at the Prime Minister, Rahul targeted him over his frequent foreign tours.

“PM Modi is always going on world tours, but he had not seen him standing even once with a farmer or an unemployed youth… On one side we have Nitishji who keeps going back to the common man and on the other side we have Narendra Modi who keeps travelling out but never comes to you,” added Mr. Gandhi taking a direct attack on the Prime Minister.

The young leader also jibed at PM Modi’s dresses, he said “the PM is always seen in clothes of different colours and surrounded by bigwigs…. During his recent US visit, Modi was seen in 16 dresses on different occasions.”

Expressing confidence about the Grand Alliance of JD(U)-RJD-Congress winning the upcoming Bihar polls led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Gandhi said, “We will be with you, be seen with you and fight with you.”

The Congress party Vice President also questioned the timing of the move by Modi government at the Centre to announce a Rs 1.25 lakh crore special package for Bihar when Assembly polls was round the corner in the state.
