Rape, murder of woman: Akhilesh meets Governor

akhilesh_yadavA day after Uttar Pradesh Governor Aziz Qureshi sought a report on the brutal rape and murder of a young woman in Mohanlalganj area of the state capital, the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav held a meeting with him on Saturday.

Terming the incident as barbaric and unfortunate, the Governor had sought the detailed report on the incident and also the action taken report from the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Home and DGP, Raj Bhawan sources said.

Though there is no official statement on what was discussed between the Governor and Chief Minister in their one-to one 40 minute long meeting, the Mohanlalganj issue is expected to have been taken up.

Meanwhile, despite ADG Sutapa Sanyal supervising the investigations into the case saying that the body of the victim would be preserved, it was cremated.

“The body of the victim was cremated last night by the family members”, district police spokesman said.

The incident came to light on Thursday evening when the nude body of the woman was spotted near a primary school in Balsingh Khera village of Mohanlalganj tehsil of the Lucknow by a watchman.

Solve Lucknow rape-murder case at the earliest: CM

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav took stock of the probe into the brutal rape and murder of a woman in Mohanlalganj area here and directed police officials to solve the case at the earliest.

The Chief Minister, who expressed his displeasure to the officials, has said that the state government was very serious in solving this tragic and unfortunate incident and exposing the culprits at the earliest, an official spokesman said.

Yadav also announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the two children of the deceased besides meeting the expenditure on their education, he said.

UP has lowest rape cases: Mulayam

While the SP government in Uttar Pradesh is under attack over a string of rape incidents, party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav drew flak for saying that the state has the lowest number of such cases in the country despite a population of 21 crore.

“You are talking about UP. It has a population of 21 crore. If there is any place which has the lowest number ofsuch (rape) cases, it is UP,” Yadav said
