Two newly elected and nominated Members of Rajya Sabha have taken oath on Friday in the presence of Rajya Sabha Chairman Md. Hamid Ansari in the Parliament House.
Senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, L. Ganesan, who will now represent the state of Madhya Pradesh and nominated member Roopa Ganguly of West Bengal, took oath and affirmation.
The oath ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, P J Kurien, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu along with other leaders.
The BJP nominated actor Roopa Ganguly to the Rajya Sabha to fill a seat vacated by cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, who resigned earlier this year.
Government nominated Subramanian Swamy, Narendra Jadhav, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Suresh Gopi, Swapan Dasgupta and Mary Kom as the new Rajya Sabha members in April earlier this year.
These two members will join the proceedings of the Upper House from November 16. Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced that Winter Session of Parliament will begin from 16th November to 16th December.
