Releasing report card on Modi government’s achievements in last two years, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal Minister said that government is heading toward Zero Tolerance on Food wastage.

In a presentation given during the interaction the food processing Minister said that around Rs. 92,000 crore worth of food is wasted every year because of transportation and lack of storage facilities.

“We have studied 43 agriculture produces in 106 districts and calculated for country level..It came around 92,000 crore,” said the Minister

Addressing media Harsimrat Kaur  said that  her ministry created Food Processing units with capacity up to 32 lac MT capacity worth Rs. 9,000 crores within two years which will reduce wastage by 10%.

“Creation of 37 Mega Food Parks and 134 Cold Chain projects will reduce wastage level to minimum”

Minister also announced that Ministry will be announcing 100 Cold Chain Projects and a SAMPADA scheme focusing on seamless agri-cluster development in the current year that shall take food processing industries to the next level.

Food Processing is an employment intensive sector and to facilitate investments, a single window facilitation cell has been created to handhold overseas and domestic investors in food processing sector.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal also announced that the Ministry shall be launching a Mobile App to provide one -stop information to farmers or entrepreneurs to provide necessary skill set to them for setting up food processing units.
