Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari on Friday said he has accepted the resignation of Pranav Pandya who was nominated to the Upper House by the President. Hamid Ansari made this announcement on the last day of the budget session of Parliament.
Pranav Pandya, the head of All World Gayatri Parivar, was nominated to Rajya Sabha on May 4 but he turned it down.
When the House met for the day, Ansari said he had on May 9 received a letter from Pandya in this regard.
“I have accepted his resignation with effect from May 11, 2016,” he said.
Pandya had turned down the Rajya Sabha nomination saying he believed he can serve and impact people and politics better by staying away from the Upper House.
“Thanks to all who sent their congratulations for my nomination to Rajya Sabha,” tweeted Pandya when he got the news of his nomination.
Mumbai-born Pandya is Director and head of the All World Gayatri Pariwar (AWGP). On April 22, the government had nominated Subramanian Swamy, Narendra Jadhav, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Suresh Gopi, Swapan Dasgupta and Mary Kom as the new Rajya Sabha members.
The President recommends the names of the nominated members drawn from fields such as literature, science, sports, art and social service on the advice of the government.
