RS Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu sends greetings on Rajya Sabha Day

Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday extended his greetings on Rajya Sabha Day.

 

In a series of Twitter messages, he said, the Upper House of Parliament has been playing a pivotal role in shaping Indian polity and discourse since its establishment and has been guiding the country towards greater progress.

Chairman Naidu said, “on this important day, I urge all the members to continue to guide and inspire people through their participation and keep raising relevant issues concerning the common man”.

Chairman Naidu also complimented all the members of the Upper House, successive Governments and the Secretariat staff who have been contributing to strengthening the democratic spirit of the country.

Secretariat Staff Greeted

Rajya Sabha Secretary General Desh Deepak Verma also greeted the employees of Rajya Sabha Secretariat on Rajya Sabha Day. He said a function that was scheduled for the occasion, would be held later after the situation becomes better.

Senior Rajya Sabha Secretariat officials also held a meeting via video conferencing to discuss urgent official matters.

Secretary PPK Ramacharulu, who presided over the meeting, congratulated everyone on Rajya Sabha Day. Till now 74 MPs have pledged Rs 99 crore from their MPLADS funds to the PM Cares Fund to fight the COVID 19.

Among the matters that came up at the meeting was the issue of important notifications and payment of salaries for the month of March.

Also discussed was the deduction of a day’s salary of secretariat employees who had consented to contribute it to the PM-CARES fund.

Notifications for newly-elected Rajya Sabha MPs, making available file-sharing to officers through e-office and VPN for carrying out official work from home, coordination of works of Parliament committees, the status of safety of staff from Coronavirus were also discussed.

On Tuesday, Secretary General Desh Deepak Verma started the practice of Rajya Sabha Secretariat officials meeting via video conferencing. An online sendoff was held for three officials who retired on March 31.
