RSTV had a subscriber base of 4,25,622 on August 10, 2017 and since then acquired 15,75,238 subscribers marking an increase of 470% during the last one and a half year. During the same period, total views on YouTube increased from 8.13 crore to 29.62 crore marking an increase of 364%.
With over 2 million YouTube subscriber base as on February 4, 2019, RSTV is far ahead of other channels like NDTV India (1.52 million), India Today (1.33 million), DD News (1.12 million), Times Now (0.99 million), Republic World (0.87 million), CNN News 18 (0.65 million), News Nation (0.63 million), CNBC Awaz (0.63 million), Lok Sabha TV(0.44 million), CNBC TV 18 (0.29 million), News X (0.28 million) and WION(0.23 million).
Among the leading news channels, RSTV is in the eighth position behind only AajTak, India TV, ABP News, Zee News, NDTV, News 18 India and News24.
The rapid expansion in the viewership of RSTV is attributed to editorial autonomy, selection and diversification of content making it unique from others, increased coverage of the official events involving the Prime Minister and increased ground reporting.
Since August 2017, coverage of the events involving the Prime Minister has increased on RSTV including live coverage of his monthly ‘Man Ki Baat’ and interactions with various stakeholders from time to time. As an illustration, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s interaction with students ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0’ on January 29, 2019, has clocked over one lakh views on RSTV’s YouTube platform in less than 48 hours with the video going viral.
For further improving the content and coverage planning, RSTV is in the process of joining BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) platform for assessing viewers’ response to each of its shows. RSTV will also soon start airing advertisements of governments and public sector entities on the lines of LSTV.
